Construction & Building projects regularly generate surplus materials. Paving, timber, aggregates, fencing, drainage products and countless other items can be left unused once a job is complete. At the same time, tradespeople, landscapers and DIY customers are searching for those exact products. Without a specialist marketplace connecting the two, useful materials can be difficult to sell, expensive to dispose of and ultimately end up being wasted. Commercial suppliers face a similar challenge when they have surplus, clearance or specialist stock they want to put in front of a relevant trade audience.
We developed In My Yard around a simple principle: make it easier for useful materials and equipment to find their next owner. Sellers can create an account, choose the appropriate specialist category and advertise products to relevant buyers. Listings can cover everything from building and landscaping materials to tools, machinery and trade equipment. Buyers can browse and search the marketplace, discover available products and deal directly with sellers, with options for collection or delivery depending on the listing. Different membership levels support everyone from occasional private sellers through to professional traders and commercial suppliers, while features including promoted listings, account wallets and user dashboards provide the infrastructure required to operate the marketplace at scale.
In My Yard brought a fragmented buying and selling process into one specialist digital marketplace designed specifically around construction, trade and DIY. The platform gives private sellers, tradespeople and commercial suppliers a dedicated place to advertise stock while giving buyers access to new, used and surplus materials and equipment that may otherwise be difficult to source. Beyond creating a commercial marketplace, the platform supports a more sustainable approach to construction by encouraging useful materials to be reused rather than unnecessarily discarded. The result is a scalable marketplace infrastructure capable of supporting multiple seller types, thousands of product categories and the complete journey from listing and discovery through to communication and purchase.
